Fish Tale Fishing Charters Ocean City NJ Back Bay Flounder. Since the last report we have been out fishing in the Bay for several fishing charters. There has been action. Some of the trips the better action has been on the outgoing tide and some days the incoming tide has been better. As soon as you seem to figure the bite out the Flounder change the rules. When the bite has been active we have caught Flounder on Minnows as well as Gulp Swimming Mullet. That being said there has been days the action has been slow no matter what the bait or tide, Guess that’s fishing. When using the Minnows we use a regular Flounder rig. There are two ways to use the Gulp bait. We have used it on a small Bucktail or we have used a tandem Bucktail with a teaser or plain hook. This rig needs to be jigged, bouncing it across the bottom all the time to give it life. This method takes some effort yet can be very effective. Because you need to jig this rig all the time it is not for everyone. Some folks get tired of doing the jigging motion constantly. There is a knack to it yet is easy to learn.

Fish Tale Fishing Charters Ocean City NJ Back Bay Flounder. The days that we fished and the action was good we caught a decent number of Flounder. It seems like there has been an influx of smaller Flounder this week moving into the Bay from the Ocean. All of the Flounder we caught were all small. We did not have a keeper Flounder this week. The Flounder were all under the legal size of 18″. Many were only about 15″. Some were close to legal. I know they are coming in the Bay from the Ocean because the Fluke looked lighter in over all color, they were very spotted on the top side, the bellies were peal white. This is how Flounder look in the Ocean. When they are in the Bay for a while the Fluke get darker in color on the topside and the spots are not as prevalent. Their bellies get dirty, they get a brown slime over the white belly. The Bay bottom is kind of muddy and dark in the Bay. the Flounder change their topside color to match the Bay floor to blend in. By laying on the bottom which is what they do, this is how they get the brown slime on the white belly. We have trips coming up. We like the action yet would like a keeper or two for the box. Stay Tuned!
