I went over to the boat show Saturday to see what is new in Boats, Motors and anything else that is connected to the world of fishing and boating for the 2019 season. We got there at 10am when the doors opened and walked around the show until about 3 in the afternoon. There was a lot of pretty cool stuff. In the future if you are looking for something to do. Maybe you have not been to the AC Boat Show and live an hour or two away from Atlantic City NJ, the Boat show is a fun day. Go, You don’t need to be in the market to buy anything, it’s fun just seeing the sights. The tickets are $16 for adults and the show is stocked full of boats of all sizes. There are tackle manufactures of rod, reels, dock lines, bumpers you name it it’s there. Some Tackle shops, Boat Electronics dealers. There was even a pool which my friends at Fin-Atics the best tackle shop in Ocean City NJ had set up to have people that were interested in trying a Stand-up Paddle board or one of the Kayaks they sell from the shop. It was a real big attraction. The guys at Fin-Atics were busy with folks interested in buying the boards and Kayaks. There was also people waiting who just wanting to take a spin on one of the boards and Kayaks in the pool. I stood there talking to the guys from Fin-Atics wondering if someone would fall in the water. I was there about a half hour and everyone stayed dry. You should Consider going to the Atlantic city NJ boat Show next year. It is usually the last couple days of February and the first weekend of March. Go on line and do a search for AC Boat Show 2020 later this year and all the information will be there. FUN DAY!

While at the boat show I did some networking, chewing the fat, asking what other Captains may be hearing about Striped Bass and Flounder regulations. Most people were talking about Striped Bass. I heard a number of guys talking about the possibility of a “SLOT FISH” for Striped Bass. I have been in favor of the “SLOT FISH” idea for a while yet it never gets considered by the powers to be. For those that may not know what the “SLOT FISH” is? It could be something along these lines. The sizes (length) I am going to use in this example are random and picked just off the top of my head. A “SLOT FISH” regulation could be 22″ to 34″ and 1 fish bag limit per person per day. This example means that you can keep one Striped Bass at least 22″ up to and including 34″. One fish in that range. Any Striped Bass under 22″ or over 34″ is either to small or too large to keep. By law the fish under 22″ or over 34″ goes back in the water. This would go a long way in protecting the large breading females and the Striped Bass population in general. As female Striped Bass get older and larger they produce more and more eggs. Large females produce millions of eggs. (FEMALE STRIPED BASS ARE MUCH LARGER THAN MALE STRIPED BASS WHEN FULL GROWN) With the Striped Bass population going down as far as it has these fish are considered over fished and that over fishing does exist. The data is saying that the females are not at sustainable levels to keep the Striped Bass population up. I think for myself the “SLOT FISH” idea would work. It worked down in Florida when the Red Drum numbers were just about gone. The Red Drum came back over time and now the regulations are not as tight. If given a chance by the powers to be it would work up here for the Striped Bass. Let’s give “SLOT FISH” a try. Got to protect the Breading Females.
