Everything I am hearing is that the Flounder regulations are going to be the same as last year. This means that once it is put out to the public by the State Of NJ we will start fishing for Flounder Memorial Day Weekend. Anglers will be able to fish for Flounder thru about the third week of September. The legal minimum size we will be able to keep will be 18″, everything under 18″ goes back in the water to get bigger for another day. The Bag limit (how many you can keep per person per day) will be 3. This is silly, I have gone on record saying just how I feel. Today is not the day for another rant. The only thing more comical and ridiculous is the Black Sea Bass regulations. From what I understand these regulations are also the same as last year. CRAZY! So for now we sit and wait to hear it officially from the State Of NJ.

The weather is getting a little bit better yet some of the night time air temperatures are still in the 30’s which will keep the water temperature lower. During the day we have been in the upper forties and mid fifties. This weekend we are to hit the 60’s. The ocean temp as of this morning was 43*. The Bay water temperature has been bouncing up and down. Lately it has been as low as 43* and the warmest day it made it to about 47*. The water temperature will have a lot to do with the fishing. Specifically the Striped Bass. There are no boats in the water at this point with water temps still too low to get a bite of Striped Bass you can count on. There has been one or two Striped Bass caught on occasion by the guys that are Kayak fishing. The one or two Bass that have been caught are way up the river near Mays Landing. Closer to home there has been some Perch caught. Some guys have done well on a few days with the Perch using Blood worms as bait. These anglers are fishing for Striped Bass and getting the Perch instead. When the water in the Bay gets to at least 50* or a bit higher consistently things may turn on with the Striped Bass. Last year the Bay water temp did not get to 50 until we got to May. We shall see. Stay Tuned!
