Fish Tale Charters Ocean City NJ Back Bay Striped Bass. We had a charter this past Monday and I fished Tuesday also. It was a good thing we got the trips in the beginning of the week because the wind is blowing to beat the band right now. Yesterday it blew and today and again tomorrow. It is nuts with this wind. Right now it is blowing out of the West at 30 to 35mph with gusts to 50mph. Hold on to your hat boys and girls. Monday we left the dock in some fog yet the wind was nice and still. We made our way back into the marshes in the Back Bay and made our first stop. After a few casts we hooked up to a Striped Bass yet Jeff could not keep the hook buttoned. We lost the first shot at the Bass before we could get it to the boat. We zigged and zagged to a few spots. The boys had a few more shots at Striped Bass yet in each case we lost the fish before we got them to the boat. There where fish there on Monday we had our chances yet came home with nothing to show for the good effort.

I was using the same artificial baits. On the second cast we hooked up with a Striped Bass. I could tell by the way the fish was fighting and pulling it was a smaller Bass. When the fish was brought to the boat it was a 20″ Striped Bass. I popped the hook and released the fish with no harm done. The Striped Bass swam off in a big hurry. We kept working around the marsh and had several hits yet the Bass pulled pretty good and did not get the hook. On the next stop in the same area on my first cast I hooked up to a Bass that I could tell by the way it hit and was fighting was a nice Striped Bass. When I got the fish to the boat and saw it it was a nice Bass. I got the net and put the fish in the basket and over the side of the boat it came. The Striped Bass measured 26″ and tipped the scale at 8lbs. It was a nice fish to keep and use a Striped Bass Bonus Tag that I get from the NJ State Fish And Game Commission. With these tags I record all fish details that were caught and kept also released. I can use 1 tag per person per day on my boat. We are able to keep a Striped Bass measuring at least 24″ to less than 28″. So this Bass at 26″ got a tag attached to it and in the fish box it went. These are very good eating size Bass. We fished a while longer and had a few bites yet nothing got hooked. We came home with the one Striped Bass in the box. Lots Of Fun!
