Fish Tale Charters Back Bay Fishing Striped Bass OC NJ. Unfortunately we are not fishing today or tomorrow and Saturday. The weather is great! The wind is very light, the air temperature is in the upper 40’s in the early morning and the high temperature is in the low 60’s during the middle of the day. The water temperature is hanging around 61* or 62*. The water temp has dipped on 4 occasions below 60*. Things are shaping up nicely for fishing the Back Country Of The Bay. With the weather as nice as it is you are probably wondering why we are not out there casting our baits and trying to catch Mr. Linesider. (Striped Bass) The reason is the tide. The tide is not right over the next few days. For example today the tide in the morning was high at 5:30am. We would have had to be off the dock at 3:30am. At that time of the night I was DREAMING of catching big fish. The tide will start to be at a better time of the day starting next week. Of course you know what will happen then…….. Yep you got it, the weather will turn and the wind will be blowin to beat the band. The handful of days that the tide will work won’t be fish-able. You wait and see.

The Bass are around. the trick is to find where they are feeding on a particular day and time. The Bay is a big place. The Striped Bass can be anywhere. They don’t necessarily feed in the same spots day to day. For years I have at time said to myself I got these fish figured out. As soon as I have felt I got the Striped Bass pegged in certain ways and habits they go and do something completely opposite from what I thought. So when we get out on a day to fish the Back Bay for Striped Bass we head to the likely spots and move from there trying to pin the Bass down. The one thing I do know is they tend to be most active around high tide. They tend to feed just before high tide and just after high tide. That is why we get off the dock 2 hours before the high tide and fish so that we are back 2 hours after the high tide. If we are going to give ourselves the best chance to catch Striped Bass this is the best time frame to do it. The tide is different every day. It changes by about an hour give or take one day to the next.
