Fish Tale charters Back Bay Fishing November Striped Bass. The tide was good all last week to be out in the Back Country of the Bay fishing for Striped Bass. We want the high tide to be at a time of the day that it is not during dark hours. I particularly like the morning hours. Last week was it. Unfortunately the only window of opportunity we had to leave the dock was Saturday 11/2. The rest of the week the wind was howling. The NOAA Marine forecast as well as the other weather websites I go to for weather information had high wind advisories posted. At anytime during last week the winds were as high as 30 mph. NOT EVEN CLOSE TO BEING FISH-ABLE. So we did the house hold jobs waiting for the break in the wind. 11/2 Saturday was the break we were looking for. The wind was light and variable for that day. YIPEEE! If there was a down side to the day it was the fact that by Saturday the high tide was a bit later than I prefer. 1pm was high tide at the 9th Street Bridge which means the tide would be high a bit later than that back where we have been fishing. We got off the dock just before 11am heading to the fishing grounds in the Back country of the Bay.

It is my preference that in the morning when things are quiet and still with the sun lower in the sky you have a better chance of finding the Striped Bass on the feed. As I said you can still catch Stripers in the afternoon because we did on Saturday. We caught 5 Stripers total and we had one Bass that was a keeper. The Bass was 25″ in length. That size Striped Bass is a fish we can tag. By tag I mean it is a Bass that falls in the size requirement for the Striped Bass Bonus Program. The NJ State Game Commission has a program in which I participate in. It allows me to have each client on board keep one Striped Bass that measures at least 24″ yet measures less than 28″. These Striped Bass can then be tagged with a tag I have with serial numbers then kept for dinner. I as the Captain need to record all the Striped Bass we catch. That includes keepers as well as Bass we release. I record the sizes of all the Stripers as well as the weights of any we keep. I also record the location caught. This information I record for the State is valuable for the research the biologists do. It is a win win for all in the long run.
