Bay Fishing Charters On Board The Charter Boat Fish Tale

On Board Fish Tale

Our Bay Fishing Charters over the past week we have seen some Flounder action. The best action has been out in the main Bay. Not so much action in the back Bay behind Ocean City NJ. The total numbers we have caught this week on any day has varied from a handful to around 15 per trip. Lately the keepers have been hard to come by. Some of the Flounder are very small yet others are very close to being the legal size of 18″. Some trips the Flounder are very aggressive giving a good hard pull to let our clients know they are on the hook. Other days the Flounder are very lazy. When Flounder are lazy you need to have patience before trying to set the hook. With lazy Flounder you need to give the fish a chance to get the bait in their mouth before setting the hook.

While on ourBay Fishing Charters, the water temperatures I am seeing are high for this time of the season. The heat wave we are in is not helping. The air temps. have been in the high upper 80’s and low 90’s. With the hot sun beating down on the Bay I have seen water temperatures up as high as 77*. That is very warm for this time of the season. With the Bay water this warm you would think the Flounder would be reported being caught in the ocean. The deeper ocean water is cooler particularly near the bottom. I am not hearing much to confirm the Flounder are out in the ocean and biting. So where are the larger numbers of Flounder. The big Flounder that are keepers are hiding someplace.

We have not done any Ocean Bottom Fishing trips as of yet. The Ocean fishing should be turning on soon. When it does we will be there. For now we are doing Bay Fishing Charters. We are catching flounder in the Bay so we do have some action. The big Flounder lay in the same area as the smaller Flounder. You never know when the next bite will be a big 20+ inch fish. Have patience you may be rewarded. Stay Tuned!
